　　The city of Athens on Monday (9 August) honoured Greece's oldest Olympian, a 95-year-old former pole vaulter who still goes to the gym every day, and hailed him as a role model for competitors at the 2004 Games.

　　Peter Clentzos, a Greek American who took part in the 1932 Olympics in Los Angeles, said he was thrilled to receive the Medal of the City of Athens in the build-up to this month's Games, the first to be held in the Greek capital since 1896.

　　彼得-克伦特佐斯，是一位拥有美国国籍的希腊人，他曾经参加了1932年的洛杉矶奥运会。克伦特佐斯表示，他一想到自己能够在雅典这个奥运的起源地看到这次奥运会，就激动的浑身发抖。

　　"I've been looking forward to it (his visit to Greece) for a long time it's been a real ambition of mine to come back again. I didn't think I was going to come back but they are some really nice people who made it possible for me to be back here."

　　彼得-克伦特佐斯表示：“我一直以来都希望能够来到希腊，回到希腊对于我来说是一个真正的梦想。我从来没想到我还能够回来，但是有些人帮了我大忙，这些好心人让我最终回到了这儿。”

　　Clentzos, who lives in California, took part in the global torch relay bringing it in to Athens with the Game get underway on Friday.

　　Born in the United States to Greek parents, Clentzos was a pole vaulter at the University of Southern California in the early 1930s.

　　He had dual citizenship that allowed him to try out for both the US and Greek Olympic teams.

　　He failed to make the US squad but was selected for the Greek contingent.

　　不过，克伦特佐斯并没有能够跻身强大的美国代表团，但是随后，他就成为了希腊代表团的一员。

　　So how does he feel to be the oldest torchbearer:

　　作为年龄最大的火炬手，克伦特佐斯也感叹万千。

　　"I competed for Greece on what they call a dual citizenship. And I was seventh at the Olympics in 1932 but my biggest throw was coming back in 1935 and setting a record at the (Olympic) Panathinaikos stadium that stood for 15 years and then I went to the Balkan games and I was very proud that I was on the team with the Greek boys and that I was able to contribute to the Greek athletic team."
